The Soil Association was founded in 1946 by farmers, scientists, doctors and nutritionists to promote the connection between the health of the soil, food, people and the environment. Today the Soil Association is the UK’s leading membership charity campaigning for healthy, humane and sustainable food, farming and land use. Soil Association Certification, a not-for-profit subsidiary of the charity, is the UK’s largest organic certification body. They are responsible for certifying over 70% of all organic products sold in the country covering organic food and farming, organic textiles and organic beauty products. The Soil Association launched their own standards for organic health and beauty in 2002 and went on to become a founding member of the new COSMOS health and beauty standards. The Soil Association works to bring the same integrity and commitment to the quickly expanding natural and organic personal care sector that it has brought to the food industry for over sixty years.
