Q&A: Nick Janda, Holland & Barrett International

For Nick Janda, head of trade plan at Holland & Barrett International, Natural & Organic Products Europe “has always been a go-to for us for the best in innovation, niche products and ingredients we’ve never seen before”.  We caught up with him before the show to find out more …

Nick will appearing in ‘The Innovation Pitch LIVE to Holland & Barrett’ at 3pm on Monday 23 April. The session will also feature CEO Peter Aldis, Lucy Pottinger (head of category for ethical beauty and aromatherapy), Lisa Sinclair (head of category for vitamins & supplements).

Why is it important to grow the natural and organic industry?

For us, this industry has always been where we’ve seen the most exciting and innovative new products.  There’s an entrepreneurial spirit that we need to continue to foster if we want to keep finding the great products and research we’ve been lucky enough to see so far.  The more retailers like us invest, the more we can help both small and large suppliers grow and develop with us and introduce the best new ideas to our customers.

How important is Natural & Organic Products Europe to you and the sector?

Natural & Organic Products Europe has always been a go-to for us for the best in innovation, niche products and ingredients we’ve never seen before.  You’ll see by the sheer number of my team walking around the show that we rely on this chance to meet new brands and get a real understanding for the biggest new trends in the industry.

What do you want visitors to take away from your session at the show?

My door is always open.  If there’s something you want to talk to us about, even if it’s only in development stages, I want to hear from you, and I hope you can see that at Holland & Barrett, we’ve got the capabilities to be able to elevate brands to the next level.  So, if you think you’ve got the next big thing, something I genuinely haven’t seen before, don’t be shy.

Who or what inspires you to be even better?

My natural curiosity pushes me to want to question, learn and develop as an individual.  Being able to share that knowledge with others is also really rewarding for me.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Focus on your weaknesses with enough desire and others will see them as your strengths.
