Our final speaker Q&A for 2018 features Jim Manson, editor-in-chief of NaturalProductsGlobal.com and Natural Products News.  On opening day, he’ll be appearing with NPN’s publisher Dominic Roberjot to unveil the full results of the 2018 ‘Health Check in Natural Products Retailing’ survey (1.15pm on 22 April).  While on the Monday (11am, 23 April), he’ll giving his take on the latest natural and organic global trends.

Why is it important to grow the natural and organic industry?

A bigger natural and organic industry means more land under organic agriculture and wider access to health foods and natural health products. It’s a double win!

How important is Natural & Organic Products Europe to you and the sector?

You’ve asked a very biased person! But I really do think that the show, together with all the inspiring people and businesses who take part each year, have helped moved our industry to a whole new level over the 22 years it’s been running.

What do you want visitors to take away from your session at the show?

My session will look at global trends in natural and organic, using a year’s worth of headlines and real-life industry developments as the basis for my commentary and predictions.  I hope attendees will get a strong sense of how natural and organic markets around the world connect up, both in terms of trade and export opportunities and the shared values we have as a global movement.

Who or what inspires you to be even better?

I think have always been creatively ambitious – I don’t know where it comes from, so I assume it’s innate. I am inspired by the many journalists around the world committed to searching out the truth. We need them more than ever.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

“Apply for art school” — I did, and it taught me to see the world in a whole new way.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that most people don’t know.

I was a close friend at school with the singer Kirsty MaColl (Fairytale of New York). She was the fun one of the two of us if I’m being honest.
