Q&A: Janey Lee Grace

Broadcaster and natural beauty trend spotter Janey Lee Grace will be discussing some of her favourite new product picks from the show at 4pm on opening day (22 April).

Why is it important to grow the natural and organic industry?

The growth over the last ten years in this sector has been incredible but it’s super important not to rest on the laurel!  As an industry we have the potential to offer real ‘competition’ and even fly above the conventional brands.  Once natural and organic products start to ‘catch up’ some of the ‘big guys’ will need to up their game.  It’s important to ensure that those with the right authentic credentials in this arena are leading the way.

How important is Natural & Organic Products Europe to you and the sector?

For the reasons above it’s very important.  Many of the show’s exhibitors are the pioneers in their field, some of the natural skincare and beauty brands started out as a ‘one man band’ blending creams in their kitchen, it’s so important to recognise the established brands and the newbies alike and its great that even the tiny companies have the opportunity to be seen by the leading buyers and potentially grow their brand and – if they want to, be stocked on the high street.

What do you want visitors to take away from your session at the show?

I hope my passion for natural and organic products will shine through, and I aim to cut through some of the ‘overwhelm’ and fast track people to my favourites, or at least to the products I’m attracted to at the show.  I’ll showcase as many new and innovative skincare and beauty products as I can, as well as mentioning old faves.

Who or what inspires you to be even better?

I was one of the first ‘influencers’ since my first book Imperfectly Natural Woman was a number one amazon best seller 12 years ago, I can’t let my ‘crown’ slip! (well…biodegradable paper hat!)  It’s really important for me to be across new trends in the natural and organic sector and hugely important to continue encouraging the ‘mainstream’ to make the switch.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

As I say to all the people I work with who are striving to have more confidence to be better ambassadors for their brand, be better public speakers et al: you don’t need to be brimming with confidence, you can ‘fake it till you make it’…if you are Authentic, you can ‘ fake it till you become it’.
