Q&A: Allard Marx, Aethic

Next up in our Q&A series is Allard Marx.  He’s CEO of London-based skincare company Aethic, which launched Sôvée ecocompatible sunscreen — the first and only sunscreen to be certified Marine Positive.

Why is it important to grow the natural and organic industry?

Because nature has much to offer provided that we treat it respectfully and sustainably.

How important is Natural & Organic Products Europe to you and the sector?

It’s a great way to provide everyone an opportunity to learn more and meet.  This being a growing sector, and Natural & Organic Products Europe plays a crucial role in promulgating further understanding within a broader audience.

What do you want visitors to take away from your session at the show?

Above all, I’d like people to appreciate the difference between biodegradable and ecocompatible.  The former being largely irrelevant, the latter crucial — to marine life in particular and that is Aethic’s focus.

Who or what inspires you to be even better?

My daughter of 6 months old.  I really do want to make sure Aethic does its part to ensure that she and her generation gets to enjoy a healthy planet when they are grown up.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Never give up.  Never give up learning.  I started this business not as a spring chicken and learn every day from people much younger than I.
