The Innovation Pitch Live to Holland & Barrett, featuring the company’s CEO Peter Aldis and members of his senior executive buying team, was a big hit at the show for a third year running.
Their session on Monday 23 April, which saw six shortlisted exhibitors take to the stage to present their latest ‘must-have’ innovations (for a chance at winning a potential listing with H&B) – pulled in a record audience of buyers and brands.
As in previous years, Mr Aldis was joined by Lucy Pottinger, head of category for ethical beauty and aromatherapy and Lisa Sinclair, head of category for VMS. While regular show visitor Nick Janda, H&B’s head of trade plan, was a new innovation judge for 2018.

“The quality of the 100 plus brands who made up the shortlist was the highest it has ever been, and we’re excited to progress further with the three business owners we felt offered something special and on-trend that could add to the range in Holland & Barrett stores across the UK.”

Doctor Seaweed’s Weed and Wonderful
Products: Organic Scottish seaweed supplement, Pure Scottish seaweed rapeseed oil, Smoked Scottish seaweed infused rapeseed oil & Intense smoked Scottish seaweed culinary essence
Dr Craig Rose, Managing Director of Doctor Seaweed’s Weed & Wonderful, says: “We launched our brand to great acclaim at Natural & Organic Products Europe 2018. It was a brilliant show to launch at, with some excellent responses and opportunities with our range of superb seaweed infused oils and nutritional seaweed supplements.
“As an added, and wonderful bonus, we were one of six brands selected for the Holland & Barrett Innovation Pitch Session. We were absolutely delighted to be announced as one of the brands that H&B wished to take to the next stage. The exposure of the pitch, and credibility of winning is already seeing the enquiries flooding in. It demonstrates that the show was the perfect platform to reach a really engaged audience – all looking for the latest industry trends.”
Product: Fruitilicious Lip Balm
Terence Chung, founder of FRUU Cosmetics, says: “As a small business that had literally started from nothing but the hard work we had put in for the last 18 months, it was very humbling to have beaten so many amazing businesses to the next stage. It also said a lot about Holland & Barrett as a business, for giving small UK businesses like us a chance. If successful it will no doubt provide a great boost for our business and hopefully open doors to other retailers as well.

Product: Bio-fermented Turmeric Liquid
Sam Hewitt, founder of Turmeric Vitality, says: “This was our first year exhibiting at Natural & Organic Products Europe and it was great to have such an amazing response to our products.
“Pitching to Holland & Barrett was a dream, as I knew our Bio-fermented turmeric would be such a great fit for their customers. We’re really excited to start the next phase and meet with them to hopefully progress to seeing our products available on the high street.”
